There was a theme this week.  It started with the idea of shoes, then walking and migrated into the idea of “where my feet have been”.  I kept the concept close to home and decided I’d like to showcase some of the landscapes that I’ve taken here in my town and the surrounding Oregon countryside.  These photos will show you a few of the local places near and dear to my heart.

As always, feedback is appreciated and thanks for watching the P.O.T.D. on Twitter.

Enjoy,

Kate

Sunday, June 7th, 2009 – “Shoelema”

Shoelema

Here’s where my idea started.  A simple thought procured from the snapping of a shoe photo.  Places my feet have been.  It’s funny, really.  I’ve never really traveled far from home.  Fear maybe?  Comfort most likely.  Not to say that I haven’t explored the regions surrounding my little town of Grants Pass, Oregon.  Oregon has an abundance of natural anomalies and sites to see.  Here in my POTD this week, are a few of the most beautiful places around me.

Monday, June 8th, 2009 – “Stroke”

Stroke

This is my favorite landscape that I’ve ever taken. I love the place, a little swimming hole at Palmerton Park in Rogue River, Oregon.  I also love the post processing treatment here.  I originally wrote a short piece of flash fiction about this photo.  You can read it here.

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009 – “My Valley”

My Valley

Here’s another photo that received it’s own blog.  The natural beauty of the Rogue River always amazes me.  Read more on my feelings surrounding this photo here.

Wednesday, June 10th, 2009 – “Caveman Bridge”

Caveman Bridge

Yay!  It’s the historic Caveman Bridge!  I love this photo!  I want to make a postcard out of it.  This photo went under a massive overhaul.  It’s the subject of one of my Photoshop Tech blogs.  See it’s transformation here.

Thursday, June 11th, 2009 – “A Little Something Special”

A little something special

I’m sure I’ve mentioned it a thousand times recently but, I’m starting a series featuring business in my town that have become victims of the current economic environment.

Friday, June 12th, 2009 – “Grants Pass Night Life”

Grants Pass Night Life

My first night shot in a very long time, this photo features the main drag in my town, as well as our town slogan. “It’s the Climate” the sign boasts.  It’s something, for sure.

Saturday, June 13th, 2009 – “Rogue River at Hellgate Canyon”

Hellgate Canyon Viewpoint, Oregon

This photo has been taken a million times by a million different photographers but I still am proud of it.  I took this one on a motorcycle photo excursion.  You can view more photos from that trip here. No theme again this week but a good collection of photos.  I was very brief in my descriptions this week also because my day job has been sucking everything out of me.  I feel like an empty tube of toothpaste.  Hmmm, maybe I should try to capture that in photo.  Toothpaste Kapow.  KAPOW!

Enjoy,

-Kate

This photo accompanies a photo blog of mine.  See the full post here.

Monday, June 1st, 2009 – In the Morning

In the Morning

Oddly, I wanted to take a photo of my bathroom.  I love the colors in there, they’re quite loud.  Bright yellows, pinks, blues, greens, very vivid.  In fact, some mornings they give me a headache.  The color sort of shocks me awake.  Sort of like…KAPOW!

Tied

Taken: 03/07/2009

I really love the treatment on this one: Black and White blur to background, yellow filer and high contrast/saturation makes this already sexy photo even hawter.  Yum.

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009 – Yellow

Yellow

This is a softer back portrait.  I love these.  They are so fun to take.  I love capturing personality and mood without using facial expressions.  It’s body language in a still photo.  You could write a story about this one, in fact I might yet.

Thursday, June 4th, 2009 – Stars

Stars

My first tattoo, wrapped in mosquito netting, photo treatment on high saturation and slight posterization.  Simple and elegant.

Friday, June 5th, 2009 – Puddle Shadow

Puddle Shadow

I just snapped this photo the same day I posted it.  I had stopped by to visit with my husband at his work.  It was lightly raining and as usual I had my little Cybershot around my neck.  I stepped out back with him to have a smoke, saw this puddle, looked down, aimed and fired.  I like it.

Saturday, June 6th, 2009 – Beauty

Beauty

Here’s Susanne again, one of my favorite models.  This portrait is just so smooth and soft I love it.  The colors pop and it looks like a painting. And that’s a wrap. (All photos on P.O.T.D. are available for viewing in the gallery. Thanks for visiting www.katiekapow.com.)
